Gas cups

The size of the cup determines the shielding gas coverage. A small cup suits thin materials and tight spots, while for stainless steel and aluminium it pays to choose a larger cup or a gas lens, which straightens the gas flow and widens the shielded area. A gas lens reduces turbulence and gives a cleaner weld, especially on outside corners and pipe joints.

Cups are marked with numbers: #4 is about 6.4 mm, #8 about 12.7 mm. Furick cups are made of glass, so you can see the gas coverage directly while welding.
